Why You Should Visit a Dentist Open on Weekends

Dental issues can occur at any time, which is why you should find a dentist open on weekends. Weekends are usually just as hectic as weekdays, thanks to sports practice, music rehearsals and various appointments. From a chipped tooth to gum injuries, it is always hard to tell when a dental emergency will happen.

Due to the high level of demand for dental experts available on Saturdays and Sundays, some dental offices open on weekends often cater exclusively to patients who are unable to see the dentist on weekdays. Although these types of offices are rare, they exist and can be a practical choice for people who barely have time during the week.

Why visit a dentist open on weekends?

There are many reasons to visit a dentist open on weekends, including:

Unavailability on weekdays

Some people have busy schedules during the week — either due to work or school demands — and it is virtually impossible for them to visit the dentist. Most dentists do not operate outside office hours, leaving such people with the only choice of visiting a dentist open on weekends.

Dental emergency

Dental emergencies that occur during the weekend — either due to an accident, a hard fall or from playing contact sports — must be promptly treated. It could be the case of a severe tooth pain that started in the middle of the night or a cracked tooth from biting a hard nut. Regardless of what the issue is, finding a dentist open on weekends will ensure that the patient gets prompt treatment and relief. Generally, a visit to the dentist is necessary if:

  • The gum is bleeding
  • A tooth is knocked out
  • There is severe teeth pain that may be caused by a severe infection
  • An object is trapped between the teeth
  • A tooth is severely cracked

Treatments provided

A dentist open on weekends should offer the same treatments, including:

  • Routine checkups and cleaning
  • Wisdom teeth problems
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Dental cavities
  • Teeth whitening
  • Provision of dental crowns
  • Dentures
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Root canal procedure
  • Severe tooth pain
  • Emergency tooth extractions
  • Orthodontic treatment
  • Dental implants

What to do?

It is impossible to control the occurrence of dental emergencies, but patients can decide what to do or where they go when they happen. Many people would head straight to the emergency room when they or their children have a dental emergency. Unfortunately, this is not always a good idea because emergency rooms do not always have standby dentists or equipment to cater to dental emergencies.

If the accident causes severe bleeding and swollen oral tissues that may threaten the life of the victim, it is better to call 911 or go straight to the emergency room. Otherwise, a visit to a dentist open on weekends is advisable to save the tooth and get substantial relief.

Final note

A dental emergency is the most common reason to visit a dentist open on weekends. If the situation is less urgent, such as a diagnostic or preventive treatment, the patient will be better off by scheduling an appointment during the week. Unfortunately, this may not be convenient for many people.
