The first part of the dental implant restoration procedure is where the dentist places the implants deep into the jaw. The dentist will numb the area and then makes an incision in the gums. The implants, or posts, are made of titanium. Over the next few months, they will fuse with the bone. The dentist then sews up the incision area.
Once the gums have healed and there is enough bone growth, the patient comes back to the office. In the next stage of the dental implant restoration surgery, the dentist opens up the gum again. This time, the dentist attaches a smaller piece, called an abutment, to the posts. The dentist closes the surgical area around the abutment and allows for more healing time. Once this takes place, the dentist places the natural-looking crown on the abutment.
Living with painful teeth can be challenging. Living with missing teeth might be even more difficult. Fortunately, with dental implant restoration, you can have the full function of your mouth once more. Talk to your dentist about whether you are a good candidate for this surgery.
