Benefits of Seeing a Weekend Dentist
In order to have a fully rounded health regimen, it is important to see the weekend dentist at least once or twice a year. Whether the appointment is for cleaning teeth, checking on long-standing problems or just making sure all the teeth are in good working order, everyone has individual reasons and timelines for dental visits and personal ways of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Some persons, however, cannot fit in a visit to the weekend dentist during regular weekday hours. According to data gathered by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in May of 2013, upwards of 16 % of Americans work in professions in an office setting or in some type of administration. Many office jobs generally work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday and often end right around the time a typical dentistry office closes its doors for the day. To counteract this scheduling dilemma, a number of people visit weekend dentists.
What is a weekend dentist?
The definition is exactly what anyone would expect. Weekend dentists — sometimes called emergency dentists — are providers with office hours on weekends. They exist to take care of dental needs that either cannot wait for regular weekday hours or that do not fit into the schedule of a patient who works Monday through Friday and does not have available time for obtaining care.
Most weekend dentists are only open on Saturdays; anyone looking for one who is open on Sundays may have some trouble. A quick internet search, however, should also be able to find a Sunday provider.
Why go to a weekend dentist?
Weekend dentists are an extremely convenient option that considers the busy schedules of today's workers. Patients do not have to worry about synchronizing calendars, taking time off work to go to an appointment in the middle of the day or worry about rushing through traffic to get into a last-minute timeslot before the building closes.
These dental care providers also allow for easy access if there is a dental emergency on the weekend. Say, for example, a child bites on an apple too hard and damages a tooth. The little one cries out in pain that does not seem like it will ease anytime soon. The child needs to see a dentist, but it is a Saturday.
The parent immediately makes an emergency appointment and takes the child to the local weekend dentist to get the tooth checked.
When dental crises are handled on the weekend, the persons affected do not have to worry about taking extra time out during the week to take care of the problem. Whether it is for emergencies or for tight schedules, a weekend dentist is always a good option for full-time workers, their families and their stress levels.
Final notes
Some weekend or emergency dentist offices offer different services than others, so it is important to check to see which are available. Most providers will have this information readily displayed on their websites. If you need to find a dentist that works for you and your schedule, do not hesitate to call for an appointment.
